There once was a cute little turtle with a very pretty shell. He lived in a
pond under an old oak tree. One morning when he woke up he noticed that his
shell was missing. He had his shell on when he went to bed. He didn't know
what had happened to it.
He asked Mr. Frog, "Have you seen my shell"?
Mr. Frog said, "No, you should ask Mr. Fish. He croaked and jumped along
his way.
Turtle didn't know where to look, so he went and found Mr. Fish. Turtle
said, "Hello Mr. Fish. Have you seen my shell today"?
"No I haven't". said Mr. Fish, You should ask Mr. Snake". Then he swam
away.
Turtle was starting to get sad. He was worried that he might never see his
shell again. Turtle found Mr. Snake and asked him, "Mr. Snake, have you
seen my shell"?
"Sorry Turtle, I haven't seen your shell" replied Mr. Snake. "Have you
asked Mrs. Bird? She might have seen it".
"No I haven't. Thank you anyway Mr. Snake".
Turtle swam over to the old oak tree. Then he started to cry. He knew that
he wasn't going to find his shell.
Then from above Mrs. Bird asked, "Why are you crying Turtle"?
Turtle told her that he lost his shell and couldn't find it anywhere. Mrs.
Bird started laughing. "Why are you laughing at me"? Turtle asked Mrs.
Bird. "Is it because I look funny with no shell"?
Mrs. Bird smiled and said, "No. I'm laughing because your shell is on your
back".
Turtle turned and looked. "I don't see it", he told Mrs. Bird.
Then she asked "Have you ever seen your shell"?
Turtle thought about it. He thought and thought some more, but he didn't
ever remember seeing his shell. "No, I don't think I have" he replied.
Mrs. Bird said, "It's been on your back the whole time. You just can't turn
your head far enough to see it".
Turtle felt silly about the whole thing then. He had made a big deal over
nothing. He thanked Mrs. Bird and swam off to show everyone his pretty
shell.

Inspired by a comment made by Ava at dinner last night. She said (out of the blue) "I can't see my face". Love you little girl.
