The Birdie Story

There once was a birdie sitting in a tree. She was a beautiful blue bird
with a nest filled with three eggs. She made the nest herself out of twigs
and leaves. It was a small nest but a nice home for a bird. She would sit
on her eggs and keep them warm. Even when it was really cold she would sit
and protect her eggs. Even when it was raining she wouldn't leave her eggs.
She wanted to make sure that they were safe and nothing would happen to
them.

One day she was very hungry and she saw a small worm on the ground. She
thought about what to do. She didn't want to leave her eggs, but she was
very hungry. She finally decided to swoop down, grab the worm, and hurry
back to her nest. She jumped out of her nest and dove down toward the
ground. She gobbled up the worm and flew back to her nest as fast as she
could fly. When she got back to her nest she was very worried. One of the
eggs was broken open and there was nothing inside. She got very scared. She
started looking all over the place but couldn't find anything. Then she
heard a small "chirp" sound. She looked over the edge of the nest and there
sat a tiny little bird on the tree branch. Then she heard another "chirp".
She looked back into the nest and the other two eggs had hatched. All three
little birds had hatched and she was very happy. It looks like she might
need a bigger nest.
